Moreover, Congress has uncovered no inclination to discover an answer for the destroyed SGR equation short adding to the government inadequacy as opposed to affirming monetary rebuke and demanding a straight to the point rebuilding of the Medicare program (Tony M.d., 2011). Examining Murder And Unlawful Killing On People Criminology Essay

Analyzing Murder And Unlawful Killing On People Criminology Essay Insightful brain research is a methodology the police take so as to investigate criminal conduct. This type of brain research is for the most part used to respond to significant inquiries that emerge during the procedure of criminal examinations. While checking a wrongdoing scene there are three primary inquiries going through the psyches of the analysts: what are the conduct highlights of the culprit, what are the qualities of the guilty party, and is it conceivable that there are different violations submitted by a similar wrongdoer. As indicated by Jillian Robbins (Stone, 2009l) the conduct of the criminal at the hour of the occurrence is probably the best type of proof to a case. She reports that there are three significant conduct characteristics that all investigators pay special mind to while assessing a wrongdoing scene: the usual methodology, the mark and the typology of the wrongdoer. The business as usual or MO alludes to the manner in which the guilty party acts or acts while attempting to do his wrongdoing effectively. Wrongdoers ordinarily want to play out the ideal wrongdoing, or to carry out a wrongdoing without getting captured. As the guilty party picks up involvement in every wrongdoing he submits, the MO will likewise change until the successful strategy is found. This implies a guilty parties MO will changes through a progression of scholarly practices. Richard Quinney calls attention to that police agents are prepared to perceive the MO of the wrongdoer yet not to exclusively utilize the MO to interface wrongdoings together. (Clinard, Quinney, 1973) He concedes that it is troublesome not to make a hasty judgment when managing indistinguishable MOs, particularly when the violations are close in area, yet expresses that including any proof without preposterous uncertainty is a genuine police mistake. A mark, regularly alluded to as personation, depicts any surprising subtleties at the area of the wrongdoing other than the ones really expected to carry out the wrongdoing. Most guilty parties will leave indistinguishable imprints at the areas of every wrongdoing they submit. The imprint could go from anything like composition on the dividers at the area of the wrongdoing to setting the casualties body in uncommon positions. The mark has a more significant level of significance to the examiner since it is legitimately identified with the psychological procedure that is one of a kind to every guilty party. (Stone, 2009) The typology is the last major personal conduct standard used to recognize the guilty party. There are three fundamental classifications of typologies: fixing, arranging and trophy. Fixing is the point at which the wrongdoer mentally attempts to fix the wrongdoing scene. This standard of conduct is most regularly found in guilty parties who get upset after the passing of their casualty. There are a wide range of ways that the guilty parties will attempt to manage the mental effect or acknowledgment of their wrongdoing. A few guilty parties attempt to restore the casualty back to a normally looking state, for example, laying them down in bed with a cushion under their head or dressing them in clean garments. Different wrongdoers may attempt to dehumanize the casualty by either beating the casualties face in, covering the face with material or rolling the casualty facedown. In these models the guilty party is attempting to shroud the character of the casualty so as to make the wrongdoi ng less close to home. (Akers, 1994) The second classification of typology is organizing. Organizing is purposefully modifying the wrongdoing scene in would like to occupy the agents. Michael (Stone, 2009) calls attention to that arranging is submitted by somebody other than the guilty party to either misdirect the examiners from the suspect, or to secure the casualties family. The most generally revealed explanation behind arranging is to conceal autoeroticism or the self-excitement and self-delight of a sexual want without an accomplice. (Ellis, 1906) The four kinds of autoeroticism are autoerotic hanging, water sensuality, compound suggestion and self-suffocation. All structures bring about an absence of oxygen that increments sexual incitement. 66% of the groups of these casualties stage the wrongdoing scene and reposition the body for the casualty to look progressively satisfactory to specialists. (Ellis, 1906) The last typology is trophy. Wrongdoers who are composed with a tro phy typology are the individuals who take a significant keepsake from the casualty to either recall or to control the wrongdoing scene. The trophy could be anything from an image of the casualty to a body part. Note that a trophy typology could be a piece of the guilty parties signature. The following proof the specialists take a gander at while assessing the wrongdoing is the association of the scene. The manner in which the wrongdoing scene cares for a wrongdoing enlightens a great deal concerning the guilty party. There are three kinds of wrongdoing scenes: composed, disordered and blended. A sorted out wrongdoing scene shows that the guilty party kept up control during the homicide. Profilers presume that a wrongdoer of a sorted out wrongdoing scene in all probability chose his casualty on a particular premise. A model would be a sequential executioner who chose just casualties with light hair and blue eyes. Guilty parties of composed homicide wrongdoing scenes have been profiled and strikingly have been grouped with explicit character characteristics. These guilty parties generally have better than expected to virtuoso IQ levels, are socially satisfactory, explicitly skilled, had conflicting youth discipline, kept up control during the wrongdoing, utilized liquo r during the wrongdoing, live with an accomplice and have a vehicle that runs in great condition. These guilty parties plan their wrongdoings systematically. They kidnap their casualties and murder them in one areas and discard the body somewhere else, they are probably going to draw their casualties with ploys of compassion, they generally target whores, they request accommodation from their casualty, they have a high information on legal sciences and can cover their track and they invest heavily in their activities and follow their case in the media. When addressed, loved ones regularly portray the guilty party of sorted out wrongdoing scene as kind and far-fetched to hurt anybody. (Bordua, 1962) Muddled wrongdoing scenes demonstrate that the guilty party in all likelihood carried out the wrongdoing without intention. This shows the wrongdoing was submitted under motivation or out of outrageous anger. This guilty party likely homicides at whatever point the open door emerges having no particular models in picking a casualty. This wrongdoer may have a past filled with mental issues and is in practically all cases socially lacking. Frequently the body is left at the spot of death and there are no indications of the guilty party attempting to cover their tracks. Profilers report that disrupted wrongdoing scene guilty parties have beneath normal IQ levels, don't hold down occupations, are explicitly bumbling, are restless during the wrongdoing, live alone, work or live close to the wrongdoing scene, have an insignificant enthusiasm for following the wrongdoing in the news, leave an arbitrary/messy wrongdoing scene, submit sexual acts after the demise of the person in question, le ave the body considering others to see and frequently desert the weapon. A blended wrongdoing scene is one in which there are proof of a sorted out is and a muddled wrongdoing scene. The guilty party ordinarily begins with a sorted out aim yet when something impromptu intrudes on, strays from his arrangements and gets complicated. Not all wrongdoing scenes have a similar degree of association to them, it changes for each scene. After the agents gather all data dependent on the attributes of the wrongdoing, they at that point utilize the data in a procedure of profiling. There are two ways to deal with profiling, the nomothetic methodology where measurements from an enormous number of past guilty parties are taken and profilers search for an example, or the idiographic methodology where the profiler takes once contextual analysis and strongly breaks down it. One kind of profiling is criminal profiling. Criminal profiling investigates the character qualities, propensities, highlights and standards of conduct found at the wrongdoing scene so as to build up a portrayal of the guilty party. This training is otherwise called wrongdoing scene investigation. When utilizing a nomothetic way to deal with criminal profiling the examiner can see more subtleties due to the typical dispersion, yet less about the guilty party themselves. When utilizing the idiographic way to deal with criminal profiling the specialist thi nks of nitty gritty data on the wrongdoer. It is as though the specialist knows the wrongdoer all around. An imperfection to this strategy is that the agent can't contrast the guilty party with different wrongdoers which prompts the chance of constraining a profile on a wrongdoer it doesn't have a place with. This marvels is knows as affirmation inclination or fitting the pieces that work and disregarding the ones that don't work. Another type of profiling is geographic profiling. Geographic profiling is utilized to decide either the region of living arrangement of the wrongdoer or to foresee the territory of the following conceivable wrongdoing. This type of profiling is essentially done to discover which geographic area the wrongdoer feels generally great in and likes to take casualties in. (Beauregard, Proulx, Rossmo, 2005) Profiling is incredibly helpfully to agents particularly in numerous homicide violations. With the utilization of this framework, specialists can limit indivi duals and areas in get the guilty parties before they strike once more. Dr. Grover Godwin accepts that getting the dumpsite in addition to the kidnapping site radically improves the capacity to stick point the guilty parties spot of habitation. The ruin to land profiling is that profilers need in any event five violations to discover an example. This implies the wrongdoer keeps on taking lives before this procedure can produce results. Numerous profilers contend that when the wrongdoer shows some type of dysfunctional behavior at the location of the wrongdoing, for example, perverted torment, gutting, posthumous slicing and cutting, and different mutilations, the profiling of genuine guilty parties is increasingly effective. This is an outcome based from the hypothesis that when an individual is intellectually upset they exhibit the best consistency in conduct from circumstance to circumstance. Anoth

This type of writing assignment gives you the chance to look inward and draw conclusions about your choices, the course of your life, things you’ve learned and ways that you’ve grown. It’s a chance for you to not just show off your analytical skills, but to demonstrate how you can step back and view your life objectively. A reflective essay asks you to do something no other piece of writing does. It asks you to write using knowledge gained from both your head and your heart. You have to use your intellectual mind in order to engage in critical analysis. But you have use your heart or your more intuitive, wise sense of understanding in order to glean a deeper insight into what it all means. What is a Reflective Essay A reflective essay forces the write to take a step back and take a look at the overall   journey the writer has made in regard to a specific experience or arena of life. For example, teachers often love to assign such essays in regards to the students’ writing portfolio. A painfully common example of a reflective essay prompt might be something like: â€Å"Reread all of the works in your writing portfolio in chronological order. Reflect on some of your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. How has your writing improved? How does it need to improve? What do you appreciate? What are your plans to continue taking it to the next level?† Teachers love assigning writing prompts just like that because it makes the student think critically and thoughtfully about their own work. They also enjoy assigning these types of essays because the type of prompt they select can push a student to consider how their writing needs to further evolve. However, reflective essays don’t have to be focused on the topic of writing or anything academic. A reflective essay can be focused along literally any type of subject. It can be the ever familiar: â€Å"Think about your summer vacation? What did you learn? How have you changed over this two-month break from school?† Another reflective essay topic could ask you about your family, your parents, their marriage, the state of the world, fine works of art, enigmatic pieces of literature, philosophical conundrums, times you’ve failed, times you’ve succeeded, your strengths, your short-comings and how you plan on furthering your own evolution and development. Literally any subject can be adjusted to be a reflective essay topic because any subject can require thought and introspection. Some teachers say that successful reflective essays are successful for the insight and honesty they demonstrate. While this is true, often times the best descriptive essays are the ones that harness descriptive vocabulary words. Using highly descriptive words indicates for the reader that one is confident in what one has written and has thought deeply about the subject. Reflective essays often ask one think deeply about a subject and to weigh how a subject has impacted them and vice versa. It’s also important to bear in mind that using first person pronouns within this type of essay specifically is indeed permissible and even expected. Given the fact that a reflective essay asks the student to think so deeply and come up with insights, it’s also wise to engage creatively with the prompt. After all, as a student you want to come up with meaningful insights and thoughts into the essay question, and relating creatively to the material can be quite useful. One of the most enjoyable parts of a reflective essay is that most of the time, there isn’t a strong need to assemble facts and figures. Some essay prompts might require a certain extent, such as one that asks you to reflect on how the development of impressionism influenced the final products of the art form and you as a spectator. Other essays, such as ones that ask you to reflect on people who’ve influenced you, or relationships or experiences that have shaped you, will not require research. Most of the time, you’ll just have to harness a highly personal tone while keeping your style within the confines of what is considered academic. How to Write a Reflective Essay How to Start a Reflective essay Starting a reflective essay is vastly predictable. The best way to start is by, well†¦ reflecting. Honest reflection is key to writing an essay that is not derivative and that demonstrates real perception into self. Take a moment to read and reread the prompt, to make sure you understand it perfectly. Take a minute to look up any unclear words and rewrite the prompt if necessary with more accessible and familiar ones. Then take a few minutes just to think, allowing your mind to work unfettered. Jot down ideas about your thoughts on the prompt and do so without censoring yourself. Don’t judge what you write down, just allow yourself to get the ideas out. Then look at your best thoughts or ideas on the prompt and circle them. Do this until you have at least three very insightful thoughts on the prompt. Reflective Essay Format The good news about a reflective essay format is that it’s not wildly different from the format of other essays that you’ve written. You still need an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. The essay still needs to orbit around a thesis. However, because this is not the most research or argument heavy, you have more leeway in your tone, presentation and the supporting â€Å"data† that you offer. Reflective Essay Introduction Just like any other type of essay, your essay needs to start with a â€Å"hook† specifically intended to seize the interest of the reader. The great news in the case of a reflective essay is that you can get a little creative with the type of hook you select. It can be a with an assertion of honesty (â€Å"Throwing up at the prom in front of my math teacher turned out to be the best moment of my life†) or it can be a question posed directly to the reader (â€Å"Have you ever had a painting reach out and touch your soul?†) Alternatively, it can be a riveting description from a moment in your life that connects directly to the prompt. (â€Å"Running down the hall with my trousers covered in lime jelly, screaming for my best friend to chuck a tennis ball at my face, while a group of kindergartens cheered, I realized I had found the meaning of life.†) The hook is your first chance to really engage the reader and since you have a longer â€Å"leash† in this type of essay, take advantage of it. Introduction Example â€Å"Don’t talk about the beach. Don’t talk about your summer job. And don’t talk about hanging out with your friends,† my teacher commanded as she gave us instructions for a reflective essay on what we learned about ourselves over the summer vacation. These words were very formidable as essentially that was all I did this last summer: When I wasn’t at my summer job, I went to the beach with my friends. I was stumped. Furthermore, I was convinced that I had learned literally nothing over the summer other than the fact that my part-time job as a intern (gofer) at a local newspaper was nothing but drudgery, my friends were cool and the beach was a sanctuary. If someone had a gun to my head and asked me what I learned over the summer, I might say†¦ â€Å"Life is often monotonous.† So I stopped and took some time out to really think. What had I learned? About myself? About the age that I was at? About my friends? Upon reflection, I had lear ned something really important. One day a local reporter was interviewing a woman whose house had burned down in a fire. Her family lost everything. The reporter had forgotten to get the woman to sign an agreement to run her story, so they sent me to the motel where she was staying to get her signature. I was deeply humbled when I drove up to a ramshackle motel where she was staying. I knocked on her motel room, and when she opened the door, I saw that she was staying there with her three kids and her husband and dog—it was a very humbling sight. But what made the biggest impression on me was that her and her family looked so happy and grateful to be safe and together. I realized that the connections we have with others really are the foundation for all of life’s happiness. Reflective Essay Conclusion A reflective essay conclusion functions in the way that your conclusions to so many other essays should. It wraps up the essay, giving your reader a sense of closure and a sense of the crux of all your main themes. The thesis of your reflective essay needs to be restated, but in a way that links it to the notion of something greater. Since a reflective essay gives you more freedom in general and more leeway to be creative, don’t shy away from having fun with this task and attempting to do something bold. Conclusion Example And thus, while my summer vacation was filled with much monotony, this experience showed me that while monotony at times might be unavoidable (along with other negative experiences), often our relationships with others can give us a certain amount of resiliency in these matters. Our friends can reflect our own humanity back to us, shining a light on a our strengths and flaws, and helping us to become better than we are. Likewise, certain friends can drag us down, impeding our growth and development, making our lives harder than they actually need to be. However, our good friends grow as we grow and our lives remain entangled together, like ivy creeping up the side of a building. Our good friends are always supportive (even if they don’t agree with our life choices), non-competitive, and understanding that even if we’re not succeeding at the moment. Good friends can create a refuge for us that protects us from the sometimes senseless and cruel world. Such relationships n eed to be treasured and guarded. Reflective Essay Outline Just as with so many essays, an outline can help you keep your thoughts organized. However, creating an outline is particularly useful when it comes to drafting a reflective essay. The reason for this is that reflective essays can too easily become rambling and stream of conscious, leaving the reader wondering what the overall point is. Jotting down ideas in a rambling and stream-of-conscious manner before your create your outline is great. It helps you purge all your good (and bad) ideas in a way that is useful and uncensored. However, taking all of those notes and shaping them into an outline is one of the most useful things that you can do before you write. This will ensure that all your body paragraphs continue to revolve around your thesis and they continue to help you illustrate your point. A reflective essay outline will make sure that you have supporting points and examples that buttress your thesis in a way that is highly engaging. Outline Example Hook: My teacher assigned a reflective essay task and said we couldn’t talk about hanging out, the beach or our summer jobs. Thesis: â€Å"My summer vacation was so boring, but it forced me to realize the power and necessity of friendship† Body Paragraph 1: My friends hated their summer jobs, but showed me that it was still important to give it your all, as they did. Body Paragraph 2:   My friends showed me that sometimes the most boring jobs are the ones that challenge us and force us to develop. Body Paragraph 3: When I was ultimately fired from my summer job, after working myself to the bone all summer, it was my friends who offered me comfort and refuge. Conclusion: Friendship can help you get through life’s challenges. Reflective Essay Example The work of art that impacted me the most as a young person was Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. This work of art had the most profound influence on me as a teenager growing up in New York, and made me a lifelong fan of the artist. The reason that this famous painting was so influential was because it appeared to meditate on the theme of reversals, inversions and opposites. This masterpiece demonstrated to me in my youth that there was beauty in the perceived darkness. Hopper, in portraying the still beauty of a New York diner at night, is able to subvert the theme of loneliness into beauty. The loneliness of the image cannot be denied. The man and woman are not making eye contact despite sitting next to each other. It is unclear whether their hands, which rest on the counter, are touching or not.   Across from them, another diner eats by himself. The clerk hunches over, staring out vacantly. There’s a marked sense of solitude that each person experiences, there, in the middle of the night, away from all else, even among the presence of others. Rather than giving the painting a sense of the oppressive quality of loneliness, the painting finds a way to subvert the tone of loneliness into something beautiful and compelling. Hopper’s use of color and light in the painting is able to create a sense of warmth and reassurance that mitigates the loneliness of the surrounding night. Outside of the cafà © portrayed, a blue dark night and an empty street await. The enormous metropolis that surrounds the cafà © is not as imposing given the stillness, warmth and light that the cafà © offers. There are places to sit, coffee, and other comforts that give the individual a sense of reassurance. All of these elements help work together to ensure that the darkness of the cruel world that awaits them is not as intimidating and becomes more manageable. This painting had such a profound impact on me because it suggested that perhaps other forms of discomfort in my life were also beautiful. Hopper’s painting was able to suggest that if there was beauty in loneliness in a big city, then perhaps there are beauty in other difficult experiences—such as in fear, uncertainty, jealousy, disappointment. Hopper is able to suggest through imagery, shade and atmosphere that there is a way to find solace even when things seem impossible and deeply imperfect. As a youth growing up in New York City, this was such an important thing to realize because it suggested to me that no matter how difficult things got, I would always have the city to go to. If I was mad at my parents or if I didn’t have my friends or had a bad day, I could still go to the city and take refuge there. The noise, the sounds, the traffic, the skyscrapers, the public places, the cafes—they were all there for me. This was something that I realized in c ommuning with Edward Hopper’s painting. Thus, Hopper’s world-famous painting Nighthawks explores the subversion of loneliness through color and content. This painting had such a tremendous impact on me by teaching me about the power and beauty in subversion. Nighthawks taught me a crucial lesson about how negative experiences don’t have to be all-dark. There is beauty to be found in the unpleasant, the difficult and the mysterious and that one should not shirk from such lessons. Finally, Hopper’s painting gave me a tremendous reminder that no matter how I felt or what growing pains I was going through, there was always the entire city of New York to take me into its embrace. In Closing A reflective essay gives you a nice break from so much of the researching and fact finding that is such a big part of traditional essays. With reflective essays, the research you do is inward, and you must explore through your own thoughts, experiences and feelings to gain clarity. This can be a valuable experience as in writing this type of essay, you can learn a lot about yourself. The most important thing to remember when writing such an assignment is to give yourself time to self-explore, and be always certain to answer honestly, even if you think your perspective is odd or unpopular. Honest introspection will deliver more clarity about yourself and your place in the world than anything else.

Interest Rates And Capital Investments - 865 Words

The four areas of Interest and Capital we are going to look at are: higher interest rates with more capital invested, lower interest rates with less capital invested, lower interest rates with more capital invested, and higher interest rates with less capital invested. Interest rates are a critical tool of monetary policy and are taken into account when working with factors such as unemployment, inflation, and investments (Skousen, 2014). In the first scenario, we are looking at an outward shift in the demand for capital occurs in an economic boom when increased construction of plants, building, and other capital-intensive business activities requires huge outlays of investment. In this situation, interest rates tend to rise along with capital invested. (Skousen, 2014) The US economy began getting stronger in the early 1980s, it’s steadiest growth since the 1960s. This was in large part due to the Federal Reserve analyzing the economy and raising interest rates when it thou ght the economy was weak then plunging when they thought the economy was too strong. (Krugman, 1991). During this period, capital investment was at an all-time high, largely due to a banking industry deregulation. Principles of Financial Markets Business Return Investment

Question: Describe about the Principles of Financial Markets for Business Return Investment. Answer: Introduction Every investor who invests money in company is ultimately aiming to get higher returns on their investment. For this, it is necessary that they undertake adequate analysis of the industry as well as the securities of the company. Fundamental analysis helps such investors to project the future cashflows of the security by analyzing the economic outlook of the industry and the companys financial performance (Gitman et al, 2014). The following report discusses the fundamental analysis in context of two companies, viz. BHP Billiton Limited and Rio Tinto Limited. Both these companies operate in the material and mining industry. The report takes a top-down view of the company to identify the broad macro economic factors that affect the Australian material and mining industry. These factors affecting the industry outlook ultimately affect the performance and value of the company. Further, the report analyzes the current financial position of the selected company using a bottom up approach. Finally, recommendations with regards to improving the value of their company are made. Australian Mining Industry Overview Material and mining industry in Australia is critical to the economic growth of the country. It is a primary industry and acts as a catalyst for GDP growth as a largest contributor. This industry generated revenues amounting to over $ 186 billion in the year 2015 and accounts for around 179,200 jobs. Despite its contribution, the industry is experiencing a negative annual growth rate of 1.8% and is significantly impacted by pricing levels, trends in commodity markets, fluctuations in Australian dollar and other macro economic factors (IBIS World, 2016). Over the years, this industry has transitioned from investment to production phase thereby providing a positive outlook to the Australian economy (AIR, 2015). Australia is almost self-sufficient in production of most of the commodities like iron, aluminum, bauxite, diamond, coal, petroleum and many more. This allows the mining industry to vital role in improving the standard of living of citizens; create jobs and development of infras tructure through investment. The major players in the Australian material and mining industry are BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Vale, and others. BHP Billiton Limited: History and Mission Statement BHP Billiton Limited, the global mining, oil and gas company, was established in 2001 through the merger of Australian Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (BHP) and Anglo-Dutch Billiton plc. It is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia and is the worlds largest mining company in terms of revenue and employs 29,670 people. The company is listed on major stock exchanges of Australia and London. Its scope of operations includes mining and processing of minerals like petroleum, iron, copper, coals and likes and spans around 25 countries of the world with mines in Australia, Brazil, Canada, USA, Algeria and South Africa (Market Line, 2016). The company aims to enhance its shareholders value through its operations by acquisition, development and marketing of its products at low-cost (BHP Billiton, 2015). Rio Tinto Limited: History and Mission Statement Rio Tinto Limited, an international mining company, was formed in 1873 as a result of purchasing of a mine complex in the river Rio Tinto in Spain by a group of investors. The company is now headquartered in London, UK and is dual listed on stock exchanges of London and Australia. The company is one of the worlds largest producers of aluminum, iron ore, diamonds, coal and copper. Even though it operates around the world, its operations are primarily concentrated in Australia and Canada. Currently, the company employs 54,938 people. The companys mission is to improve its profitability through technology and innovation and reducing the environment footprint (Rio Tinto, 2015). Fundamental Analysis The fundamental analysis is based on the premise that there is a mismatch between the securitys intrinsic value and its market value. Thus, fundamental analysis allows an investor to estimate the intrinsic value of the security and invest in those securities whose intrinsic value is higher than its market value (Gitman et al, 2014). The analysis employs two approaches, viz. top-down and bottom-up, to analyse the value of security. Top-down Analysis Top down analysis focuses on the broad level factors that affect the whole industry along with the companies. This analysis tends to the macroeconomics factors can influence the growth and financial result of the companies. Top down analysis determine the position of economy at world level for a particular industry and with this regional and national level economy of developed and developing countries is evaluated (Viney and Phillips, 2015). There are many macroeconomics factors that affect the mining and material industry such as GPD, commodity price, exchange rate and interest rates. Diversification of investment portfolio is also segregated by down analysis, into the major profitable sector of the country. Gross Domestic Product Gross domestic production is a primary macroeconomic factor through which the financial position of the country can be examined easily. GDP is also a crucial component for the investment purpose, by analyzing it investors can decide they should invest or not. Highly GDP growth rate attract the major investors for capital deployment. Australian economy mainly based on mining industry which contributes the 13.5% of the GDP in economy (Trading Economics, 2016). Due to the resources boom in Australia the mining shares of GDP increased from last decade. Australias GDP is 2.9% of the whole economy (Budghet.gov, 2015). Australian GDP is decreasing from the year 2013, it was US $1563.9 billion and in 2015 it was US $1339.54 billion. It states that the decreasing scenario of the GDP can directly impact on the financial result of the industry reason being the lower demand in the market. Interest rate: Interest rate is an important factor that influences the operation of the business and strategy to expansion of the business at global level. It is a financial risk that is faced by the business in a fluctuation economy. The mining group is exposed to pay the interest on outstanding borrowings. The businesses activities are based on the interest rate, high interest rate affect the business in terms of taking loans from the banks for expansion of the business. By the industry is chosen in this financial management work, groups interest is paid in US$ (rba.gov, 2016). Fluctuation in interest rate affects the future cash flow. It is analyzed that changes in one percent interest rate can reduce the equity and profit. Fluctuation in interest rate also affects the discount rate applied. In year 2016 US government increases the interest rate that will affect the future borrowings from the banks and profit of the business. Lower interest rate contributes to easily accessing the capital and p romotes the economic activity. Furthermore, low interest rate encourage to households for more spending. On the other hand higher interest rate attract the foreign investment it resulted into risen of exchange rate Exchange rate: Exchange rate affects the movement of the economy operation at national and international level, it is the value of a currency for the conversion in another currency (Peter et al, 2014). In regards to this, from 2013 the exchange rate of Australian dollar is decreasing constantly. Decreasing of exchange rate improve the export competitiveness through which an exporter can sold for less in foreign currency. By lowering the Australian dollar value, major industries like manufacturing and education industry mostly benefitted. Exchange rate also has an impact on the financial result of the company. Positive exchange rate movement permits the companies for expansion of business operation and provides more return to shareholders. Fluctuations in exchange rate can influence the operating cost of BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto plc, because these businesses are operated at global level and need to payment in other currency. In addition to this exchange rate also affect the profit of the business. Exchange rate is determined by the economic condition of country. Climate change: Australian economy facing environmental and economic impact due to climate changes. Climate change is an important aspect that can influence the business of global level companies and industry also. Climate change is a major problem for the BHP Billiton and they are trying to reduce the emissions. Rio Tinto set the target to reduction of 10% green house gas and they are focusing on energy intension in operation of the business because mining industry poses the high use of the energy (Rio Tinto, 2015). Carbon pollution affects the environment negatively and sustainable growth needs an effective response to climate change. Climate change has negatively impact on the operation of business, productivity and market. Climate of Australia might be affected by the rain fall, water shortage and higher temperature. Effects of these natural calamities can influence the financial performance of the operation. Commodity market and Commodity Prices Material and mining industry is highly dependent on the fluctuations of commodity prices as commodities are the basic asset on which this industry thrives. Therefore, any fluctuation in prices of different commodities like iron, copper, aluminum and many others affect the industry as well as the financial performance of the companies belonging to this industry. The current commodity market is experiencing a modest growth. This growth is contributed by developed economies like US and Europe. However, emerging economies like China, Russia and Brazil are exhibiting declining and slow growth (BHP Billiton, 2015). Further, the commodity prices are also declining due to slow growth of global commodity demand and oversupplied commodity market (Els, 2016). This further negatively affects the profitability and revenue generation capacity of the companies operating in the industry. Bottom-up Analysis Bottom-up analysis is a fundamental approach adopted at a company level. In this approach, an analysis of a companys financial performance is made with the objective of attracting investment in the company (Bllingtoft, 2012). Bottom-up investors always look for financial strong companies which can meet their needs in the form of high dividends and other monetary rewards. For this purpose, assessment of financial ratios of the company is made. Analysis of financial ratios of BHP Billiton Ltd and Rio Tinto Ltd: Profitability ratio: Return on Equity: ROE is the measurement of a firms ability to utilize its shareholders funds to generate profits. The higher ratio shows that the company is efficiently using its stockholders money and also providing them better returns. On the other hand, low ratio indicates management inefficiency in dealing with investors money. ROE of BHP Billiton for the year 2015 is 2.94 and that of Rio Tinto is -2.31. It indicates that ROE of BHP is higher than that of Rio Tinto which means that BHP is efficiently utilizing is shareholders funds than Rio Tinto (Wang et al., 2014). Also, industry average reported is -2.13, which depicts that BHP is a better option for potential investors for making investment, as it is more profitable than Rio and provides higher returns in the mining industry. Net Profit Ratio: This ratio determines the net earnings of a company after deducting all operating costs, interests paid, taxes and dividends paid to the preference shareholders. A high ratio indicates the companys ability to manage its business affairs in an efficient way. In contrast, a low ratio is an indication of an inefficient management and lower profitability of a company. Net profit ratio of BHP and Rio for the year 2015, is 4.27 and -2.48, respectively. It depicts that BHPs all over profitability is higher than that of Rio (Getzin et al., 2016). Moreover, the industry average is found as -43.23. It depicts that BHP is constantly improving its financial health and is earning higher than Rio. Also, it can be said that Rios net profit margin is better than the industry average. Liquidity Ratio Current Ratio: This ratio is helpful in measuring the liquidity position of a company. It determines whether the firm is able to fulfill its current obligations, or not. The ideal current ratio is always considered to be 2:1. In 2015, the current ratio of BHP and Rio is observed as 1.27 and 1.5, respectively. It means BHP has a better debt-repaying ability than that of Rio (Beeson and Wilson, 2015). However, when their liquidity position is compared with that of industry average, that is, 2.73, it is concluded that solvency position of both the companies is not satisfactory. Quick Ratio: This ratio is the measurement of a firms ability to repay its current liabilities by using quick assets only. It measures a firms solvency position in a much better way. For the year 2015, it is found that quick ratio of BHP is 0.93 and that of Rio is 1.2. It reveals that Rio has a better leverage than Rio, against the liquidity risk (Beeson, 2016). However, the industry average is reported to be 1.74, which shows that both the companies are not maintaining an adequate buffer of liquid assets in order to avoid liquidity risk. Leverage Ratios Debt-Equity Ratio: This ratio is used to determine the financial structure of a firm. It identifies various sources from where the company obtains funds. Debt-equity ratio of BHP and Rio in 2015 is .25, while the industry average is 57.39. The lower debt-equity ratio of both the companies suggests that they are financially stable and less risky. Interest Coverage Ratio: This ratio indicates how early a company makes interest payments on its liabilities. A high ratio is always considered favourable. The interest coverage ratio of BHP in 2015 is 9.51, which is less than that of Rio (18.44). It implies that Rio has a more favourable financial leverage against interest-burden. Also, the industry average for the year is 8.48, which shows that both the companies are operating well in the industry as they are left with some extra earnings even after paying their all debts. Efficiency Ratios Inventory Turnover Ratio: This ratio is a useful tool to determine how efficiently a firm manages and control its inventory level. A high ratio is usually preferred. In 2015, the stock turnover ratio of Rio is 1.37, which is more than that of BHP (1.15). It indicates that Rios purchasing activity is well-managed and stock does not remain idle (Floris et al., 2013). However, Rios stock turnover ratio is less than its industry average, which implies that the company has to make some necessary changes in its inventory policy to improve the ratio. Debtors Turnover Ratio: This ratio measures how efficiently a firm collects its average account receivables. A lower ratio is always considered favourable. In 2015, the debtor turnover ratio of BHP was 14.93, which is higher than that of Rio (8.9). It reveals that BHP is able to collect its receivables more frequently than Rio (Huang, 2015). However, the industry average is found to be 12.61(higher), which implies that both the companies need to review their credit policies in order to decrease the collection. Market value ratio Earnings per Share: This ratio indicates the profits available for outstanding equity stockholders, at the end of the year. Higher the ratio, more satisfied is the shareholders. In 2015, the earnings per share of BHP and Rio are 35.9 and -47.5, respectively. It suggests that EPS of BHP is higher than that of Rio, which means that BHP is left with more profits at the end of the year, for the purpose of distribution to shareholders and also the company is seen more profitable in the view of potential investors. Dividend per Share: This ratio measures the ability of a firm to distribute cash dividend to its shareholders. A higher ratio is always preferred. In 2015, the dividend per share of BHP is 124, while that of Rio is 226.5. It reveals that Rio pays a large dividend to its shareholders compared to the market price of shares (Beeson, 2016). In contrast, BHP pays less for the shares and thus, seems to be less profitable from the shareholders point of view. Conclusion From the above analysis, it can be concluded that fundamental analysis is an important tool in the hand of any investors seeking to invest in securities. This analysis takes two different approaches viz. top-down, to assess the current and future outlook of the industry and bottom-up to identify the growth potential of the company using the financial analysis technique. In context of the chosen companies, the top-down analysis indicates that the overall outlook of the Australian material and mining industry is not so favourable form investment point of view. Even though the material and mining industrys contribution is continuously increasing as the portion of the countrys declining GDP, the falling commodity prices, increasing interest rates and climate change is making the industry environment volatile thereby dampening the growth prospects for companies operating in his segment. However, only the value of Australian dollar with respect to other currencies is the favourable aspect of the industry that is allowing the companies to lower their operation costs. Further, the bottom-up approach shows that overall, BHP Billiton Limited is better than Rio Tinto Limited as far as financial strength and profitability of the company is concerned. Recommendations From the above analysis, it can be recommended that even though mining industry is experiencing volatile environment, there is immense growth potential for companies operating in the material and mining sector of Australia. Hence, any investor seeking to invest in share capital should invest in securities of BHP Billiton Limited to ensure higher returns to investment rather than Rio Tinto Limited. This is because BHP is financially stronger than Rio as indicated by its market value and profitability ratios. Moreover, BHPs profitability is much higher than that of Rio indicating better profit generation capacity and efficient utilization of assets.
